About Christina Howard, Ethereal Society

About

Christina Howard is a ceramic artist and instructor currently living and working in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. She creates contemporary functional forms & whimsical figurative sculpture with a heavy emphasis on discovery through glaze experimentation and color layering. Growing up in Ohio, her childhood was filled with fantasy media and mythological literature which hugely shaped her interest in all things magical and unseen. Drawing inspiration from themes of antiquity, spiritual and esoteric iconography, her work strives to highlight etheric dimensions beyond the physical senses.

Originally having been exposed to clay in high school, she began her practice in 2017 and transitioned to working as a ceramicist in 2020 after a 10-year design career in the fashion industry. She holds a BA in Textiles & Clothing from The Ohio State University and teaches both wheel and hand-building at various local studios.
